Mercy's Rain seems less about Mercy as a person than it is about her evil father--a man almost too evil to be believed at times. As noted, the writing is pretty graphic. The baptism/drowning of a polio survivor serves as the gateway for scenes in which Mercy is tied to a tree and falls into the stomach of a gutted deer, has her hair chopped off, watches her newborn baby murdered, and is sexually abused. Cindy K. Sproles currently lives with her family in East Tennessee. She writes devotions and is a teacher/speaker and different conferences. My thoughts- I had a hard time reading the first part of Mercy’s Rain, because of Mercy’s father, the Pastor. He was so abusive to her and the rest of their community in Tennessee.
